The Combat Action Badge was created in 2005 to address the changing face of warfare our troops were encountering. Prior to that time, only infantry men were awarded a combat badge for engaging in actual combat with an enemy. For many years, tankers and artillery men lobbied for similar badges to denote their combat experience.

Rest in Peace Tom Garney
Tom Garney passed away on April 12, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. He will be greatly missed by all. His diligent work at locating members that had served with the unit was a huge undertaking on which he spent an enormous amount of time. He was the focal point for updates to the website and the keeper of reunion records and photos. He was very active in VFW Post 9399 and considered the 585th and VFW his extended family.
